Hello!
This one other picture is our baptism last week... the Wu family...but their son Tim isn't in the picture because didn't want to be. He's got a lot of energy, but its often hard to focus on one thing. Anyway, it was good to have a family baptism. Our goal this move call was for 3 families....but this week things have turned out to be interesting because the Chen family has been having some trials. The mom had to go the hospital for 5 days, and when she came home, their uncle found out they wanted to be baptized. He told them our church was bad, and then some other neighborhood ministers came by and told them not to talk to us anymore. So they didn't come to church, but didn't tell us why. When we by to visit them, the mom pretended like she wasn't there for a while, but finally felt bad and came to tell us what had happened. She really appreciates our friendship and in her heart has a testimony, but is really confused right now. So...that's sad to see. We will fast for them and pray that they can withstand everything that Satan is throwing at them. The gospel could help them soooo much. We just hope they can see that. Our other family came to church for the first time this week, but didn't make it in time for sacrament meeting, so they still have to come to church 3 more times before they can get baptized. They are a great couple, so we will keep doing what we can to help them develop their desire to be baptized.
This week was the Watterson's last zone conference. It was really touching. President Watterson has been an amazing president and has done so much good here! His wife is such a loving person. Their family is sad to leave, and we are sad to see them go.
Guess What?!? we got cell phones!!! This is huge! We are the first mission in asia, if not the world to allow every missionary companionship to have cell phones. The president has been working for 3 years to get us cell phones, and we finally got our chance to prove we use them. Taiwan is a cell phone centered society so we really needed them to be effective. It will save the church a lot of money, but we have to be really careful with the amount of minutes we use. Sisters get more minutes than elders 1600/month. That's only 53 minutes a day, and we have a lot of people to get a hold of every day so hopefully that will work out okay. It really is a priviledge and so more effective than having to use pay phones.
We have spent a lot of time trying to find new investigators lately. It sometimes can be tough, and I'm still trying to get used to it. We didn't spend nearly as much time last move call out contacting and tracting. I hope I can get rested today, so I have more energy the rest of the week. My companion is really patient with me, and I hope to continue to improve.
Sometimes, you know for a second or two, I miss mountain green. taiwan is practically the opposite of utah, but is also a good place. At least here we have a lot more baptisms :)
well, have a wonderful week. Enjoy those german pancakes, I can't make them here without an oven. but we they have these little pastry butter things that are pretty good.
Love,
Sister Browning
