sweet stuff

Hey Family,
We had two cool things this last weekend: a baptism and a typhoon. They were both pretty
sweet. The typhoon started on friday and our baptism was saturday morning, but we were
blessed because Saturday morning the weather was better than saturday night. We were
walking in the wind and rain about 5 in the afternoon, when the wind and rain got really
strong and it was funny cause we couldn't walk very far cause the wind was going the other
direction. Anyway about then they told us we needed to go home for the night. so
saturday night we just made a lot of phone calls. The weather is sunny now, and we
should still have a few more weeks before the cold comes.
Mei liang's baptism went pretty well. The ward members were very good to help us out, and
it all was good. Mei liang wanted my companion and I to sing Joy to the World for her and
so we did. Sister Lo sings alto really well, so it sounded alright despite my lack of
singing ability. Meiliang even clapped after... it was really funny in a sweet sort of
way.
She even made it to her confirmation on sunday. now the next phase is going to be it's
own challenge...keeping her active. she doesn't like church that much, cause she can
never sit still for very long, but she does have some friends there.
Our companion has responsibility for 34 new members (which means they were baptized with
in the last year) between the 3 wards here, so that's tough. It's sad...some go to other
churches, some don't come to church because their family doesn't want them to, some have
moved away to school, a precious few are still active and keeping the covenants they have
made. We do the best we can to keep a balance between all the aspects of missionary
work...finding, teaching, baptizing, new members, less active. It's impossible to do
everything, but it is possible to do what the Lord expects, it's just a matter of being
worth of His guidance.

I'm writing to you on tuesday because we switched pday this week. Tomorrow is a holiday
here in taiwan and is going to our finding families day here in the mission. We've all
fasted that would could find some new families to share the gospel with and tomorrow we
will be out the door by 9 a.m. and back at night at 10 p.m. with only 30 min. meals. but
the sacrifice and hard work will be totally worth it if we can find some new families to
teach. In the wards it's mostly the families that stay active, not the ones whose
families don't want them to come church, so that the goal...to find those who are going to
be baptized with their families and stay strong.
Next week I will be writing home on Monday (6 days from now) because that is move call
day. I probably won't be here in Zhanghua, but who knows...we shall see. We find out
saturday night next move call's assignments. We will see General Conference this saturday
and sunday at church, and that will be great.

I hope everyone doing well...after all you are in Utah, USA and I don't know how you can't
be enjoying that. you don't know how well you have it until you're not there anymore.
but taiwan isn't that bad lately either :)
Love you all,
Devany
